Piercing Info
Basic Procedure for Piercing
First, you choose what you want pierced. Next, you find a piercer. Then, the piercer gets a fresh pair of surgical gloves and a sterile needle. He or she marks the entrace and exit holes with some sort of marker. The piercer then takes forceps, wraps a rubber band around it to get more tension, and lines up the hole marks on either side, takes the needle, and pushes it through, catching it on the other side with a cork, depending on where the piercing is. Sometimes if the piercer is skilled enough, he or she won't use one.
Basic Procedure for Aftercare
The piercing needes to be kept clean, and depending on where it is, you may need to take special precautions, such as an oral piercing requires washing with some sort of mouthwash after each time you eat or drink anything other than water.
Piercing Jewelry
The most widely used type of jewelry is surgical stainless steel. Jewelry is measured in gauge. Jewelry of 20 or 18 gauge shouldn't be worn below the neck, because it could more easily rip out or cause irritation.
Stretching
Piercings can be stretched for a larger gauge. The basic rule is that you shouldn't go more than one gauge larger, such as from 16 to 14, because going too high at once could cause the piercing to tear. Stretching is done by insertion tapers, which is a hollow tube with a gradual increase in gauge, or just inserting a larger gauge piece of jewelry.
